Darla Skinner

Darla Skinner began work at Venetian Marble in June of 1981 after graduating from high school.  She attended VCU for her BS in Administration & Management in the mornings and worked afternoons learning from her mother who had worked for the company for several years.  After graduating from VCU in 1985, she began work full-time and has been involved with the daily operations of the business in multiple capacities ever since.

Tom Skinner

Tom worked part-time for the company during his final year of high school and as he began his career as a licensed plumber.  In 1985 he left plumbing to work at Venetian Marble full-time and learn the installation and manufacturing processes.  As the remodeling side of the business continued to grow, Tom took on more  responsibilities and became a licensed Class A Contractor while maintaining his master plumbing certification.

What We Value

  • It’s unwise to pay too much. But it’s worse to pay too little.
  • When you pay too much, you lose a little money that is all.
  • When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought is incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
  • The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It can’t be done.
  • If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run.
  • And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • There is hardly anything in the world that someone can’t make a little worse and sell a little cheaper – and people who consider price alone are this man’s lawful prey.
